Cremeschnitte (Cream Slice, 奶油切片), also known as krémes, kremówka, and kremšnita is a popular pastry across Central and Eastern Europe. It remains remarkably consistent in appearance across the countries. By naming it in their own languages, people baptised it and integrated it into their local cultures.
This project broke the pastry down into everyday domestic objects and ingredients, examining the questions of language, culture, migration, assimilation, and belonging, while discussing how shared traditions are continually remade through the personal, the political, and the material.
